Wax-Resist Egg Decorating

with Annette Clarke

Saturday, March 14th, 12-3 pm

Learn the wax-resist egg decorating technique used in traditional Ukrainian pysanky. Annette Clarke will lead you through the process. Bring 3 eggs (preferably large white eggs) and take 3 decorated eggs home!

Pysanky are traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs decorated using a wax-resist (batik) method, in which intricate designs are "written" on raw eggshells with beeswax and a stylus (kistka) before being dyed in layers. These eggs, originating from the word pysaty ("to write"), feature symbolic folk motifs and are traditionally made in spring, often given to represent good wishes, protection, and life.
