This class is geared for beginners and intermediate oil painters. For beginners, you will explore the basics of oil painting including selecting painting surfaces, setting up your palette, color mixing, and painting from observation and reference photos. For those with some painting experience, you will be challenged to take your painting abilities to the next level. At the start of class, demonstrations of various materials and painting methods will be covered. After, you will have plenty of time to apply these techniques in your own painting and receive individualized instruction to help you on your painting journey.

Watercolor

with Laura Diddle

4 week sessions

Laura Diddle studied extensively with Ralph Murray as well as established Maine watercolorists, and has become an accomplished watercolorist and instructor. Students will be given skills and techniques passed down from Ralph Murray and other influences from Laura's studies and exploration into the world of watercolor painting. Come paint with Laura in a comfortable relaxed environment here at the KAC.

Come on your own, or sign up your favorite kid side-kick to join you, for this basics class, intended for those who have not taken a photography class before. There are four retreat days available. Each retreat will help you understand what the dials and buttons on your digital camera do. Composition and in-camera techniques to create out-of-this-world photographs will also be discussed. No complicated discussions dealing with lighting equipment or processing

software.

 

After the two-hour session in the morning, there will be an hour lunch break.

 

Students are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch to be enjoyed in the KAC’s beautiful gallery. Light refreshments and snacks will be available throughout the day. After lunch, another two-hour learning session begins. Each retreat is designed as a standalone class; there are no prerequisites. Instructor Zach Lewis, a local photographer, educator and writer, will guide you through the world of digital photography using the DSLR camera you already own or one borrowed from the KAC. Cameras are on hand at the KAC for those who don’t have a camera of their own yet.

Class tuition includes tool usage, kiln firings, clay and glazes. KAC pottery is equipped for your creative experience at all levels.

 

“Wheel Throwing” - (4 Weeks, 3 hours each day)

Enjoy the peace of mind working with clay and learning how to make pottery by hand on the potter’s wheel. Justin will guide you step-by-step as you create mugs, bowls, vases, and vessels. If you’ve been curious about clay, come and make some magic of your very own.

PRINTMAKING

Adventures in Printmaking!

Learn to create linocuts, monoprints, collagraphs, and screen prints of your very own. As a general exploration of the studio, you’ll develop techniques in each process and have lots of prints to share with family and friends. Each class session offers a different process.

Our new Speedball gear-driven presses have 12" × 24"metal beds that allow for 10"x 16" print area. Two presses cut down on the waiting time. Great for mono printers.

Current KAC Members can take advantage of our studio rental program with access to equipment and studio space between 9am and 9pm Sunday - Saturday with the exception of posted class and workshop hours.

Open Studio

Mohawk Valley Artists Group

Wednesday 9:30am - 12:30pm

$10 per drop in

OPEN PAINTING IS POSTPONED, and will resume as soon as it is deemed safe to do so. 

Join this group of artists as they get together each week to draw and paint with the benefit of a live model. Structured as an Open Studio, this workshop is open to artists of all abilities who are age 18 years and older. Bring in your own supplies.

 

The Murray Studio, which is dedicated to renowned local watercolor artist and teacher Ralph Murray, is located through the Main Gallery and to the right. If you need to be pointed in the right direction, just stop by the front office and we'd be glad to help!
